Domaine Potinet Ampeau Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru 'Champs Gains' 2014
If you want to see what our palate is like for the great White Burgundy of the 'golden triangle' of Puligny, Chassagne and Meursault, this Puligny 1er Cru 'Champs-Gains' 2010 from Potinet-Ampeau is a paradigm. To start with, 2010 was a superb year for Chardonnay, from north to south in Burgundy. Here the subtlest of all Burgundy white minerality lets the freshness of 2010 sing. Pure, floral, ripe and refined. But under all is a powerful structure that starts out discreetly, but rises insistently and carries the whole package through the mid-palate on to an impressively long finish. Classic Puligny.
Domaine Potinet Ampeau Meursault 1er Cru 'Les Perrieres' 2014
If there were to be a Grand Cru in Meursault (and the proposition has been tabled) it would be 'Perrieres'. There are many styles of Meursault, but it's always 'Perrieres' that gets us. And the traditional methods of the Potinet-Ampeau production are exactly what this great vineyard needs to shine. Exceptional complexity, vibrant fruit, with exotic notes and good firm minerality. It's one of those we call a 'grown-up's wine'!
Domaine Potinet Ampeau Pommard 1er Cru 'Les Pezerolles' 2010
The Pommard 1er Cru 'Les Pezerolles' vineyard sits on the Beaune side of Pommard facing east, just above the walled in vineyards of 'Les Epenots'. The soil make up has enough clay in it to give a consistently powerful wine, year in, year out. 'Pezerolles' is considered one of the great Pommards; rich, round, gutsy, with deep color, intense fruit and good tannis. It is particularly apt for aging in the Potinet-Ampeau style.
