JUBILEE 6 BOTTLE SET
Includes one bottle of each:
Domaine Marchand Freres Gevrey Chambertin 'Vielles Vignes' 2013
‘Vieilles vignes’, old vines, have the advantage of keeping crop yields naturally low. And low crop yields mean ‘concentration’. Here we get that concentration in a Gevrey-Chambertin ‘village’ made from two contiguous ‘lieux dits’ (Pressonniers and Fourneaux) which are situated below the line of the Grand Cru to the west of the Combe Lavaux. We are talking about a classic Gevrey village spot, similar to the vineyard ‘Aux Etelois’ that is just across the way. This is Gevrey-Chambertin as we like it best.
Bernard Munier Chambolle-Musigny 2012
Here, from Bernard Munier, is a Chambolle-Musigny village from a great vintage that is open and fresh and grabs your attention. It’s not often in the world of Burgundy, and especially Cotes de Nuit, that you can drink a wine of such provenance young with gusto and without guilt. Chiseled black fruit with distinctive Morey minerality. A real find, we thought! Bernard also makes a 'cuvee' of the very same wine in 100% new oak called the 'Clos de l'Orme'. The two wines merit a side-by-side tasting.
Domaine Pierre Thibert Nuits St Georges 2014
Black fruits layered on a complex background of coffee and spice, with fine tannins already melting in. Structured but still fluid, a great texture. Complete through the mid-palate with a long finish on cherry fruit and structure.
Chateau de Vergisson Pouilly-Fuisse 'Sur la Roche' 2016
These are vines from Pierre’s end of the valley, on the slopes of the Vergisson outcrop. The vines, almost 100 years old, were planted by Pierre’s great-grandfather. And old vines on a parcel like ‘Sur la Roche’ gives a depth and concentration that is hard to believe. Elegance, tension, freshness, notes of oysters and the sea, iodine. And of course the minerality carries the finish on forever. Outstanding.
Domaine Oudin Chablis 1er Cru 'Vaugiraut 2014
An upper left bank premier cru that sits above the village of Chichée and to the south of Chablis itself, this Oudin Vaugiraut is a moment of pleasure with ripe fruit and gun-flint smoke. It’s floral and stony with a hint of salty sea breeze, pure and powerful and elegant.
Domaine Jean Fery Savigny les Beaune 1er Cru 'Les Vergelesses' Blanc 2011
Yes, we admit, it can be complicated! There is this WHITE Savigny les Beaune 1er Cru 'Les Vergelesses', but the domain also makes both a red Savigny-les Beaune 1er Cru and a red Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru ‘Les Vergelesses’ as well. To make things even more complicated, the Pernand 'Vergelesses' and the two Savigny 'Vergelesses' touch another Pernand premier cru called 'Ile des Vergelesses'! Sorry! We do our best to keep it all simple and clear. In addition to being the most complicated corner of the Savigny valley, it is also the most interesting. This Savigny white is an eye-catcher, with a greeny-gold hint. Fresh, elegant fruit notes with spice tones and a hint of honey and flinty smokiness.
