EVERYDAY DRINKING WHITE BURGUNDY 3 BOTTLES OF EACH, ground shipping included:
Domaine Germain Pere et Fils Saint Romain Blanc 2017
With admirable yields (45hl/ha). This Saint Romain white is taken seriously right from the start. Add 30% new oak and 8-9 months of aging and batonnage, and you get a very classy Chardonnay with the unique and superbly subtle Saint Romain minerality, full, rich and dense, with elegant floral notes, good acidity in its youthful charm. We found this wine on a restaurant list in Santenay and were so impressed we went the next day to meet the producers. An excellent bottle.h.
Domaine Borgeot Bourgogne 'Clos de la Carbonade' 2017
This single-vineyard Bourgogne ‘Clos de la Carbonade’ is wholly owned by the Borgeots. And the wine they make there is the greatest surprise on our list. It’s a small parcel, located in the village of Bouzeron, the northernmost village of the Cote Chalonnaise. But don’t be fooled by its modest pedigree: the ‘Clos de la Carbonade’ has something special about it. And year after year we see remarkable wines that far outshine appellations much grander than Bourgogne. The Borgeot’s can’t explain it…yet. But there is a geological study underway to see what makes this parcel tick.
Domaine William Nahan Chablis 2017
This Chablis ‘tout court’ (as the locals call ‘village’ AOC Chablis) is a model of purity. We look for sweet river rock, white flowers and a lemony acidity. My last tasting note for this one read: ‘Pale yellow gold. Floral and lemon notes on the nose. Fresh, fleshy and precise with good balance and length. Good long finish on fruit and mineral. Bingo!.
Château de Vergisson Saint Veran 2017
Bottled in March 2018, this wine is pure pleasure. Raised in stainless steel tanks, it’s pure, open, fresh, with a noseful of rich, ripe fruit that snaps with mineralty, and a mouthful of freshness that’s like biting into the grape bunch. Charming every-day drinking Burgundy!
